There’s lots of talk about church planting now — with networks, sending, boot camps, residencies, etc. — but is that what we’ve seen in the black church? If not, how has the black church spread? Has it just been by church splits (“church transplants”) or is it more characteristic of the multi-site movement? Tony Carter, Thabiti Anyabwile, and Louis Love chop it up and discuss why by and large, the institutional African-American church isn’t a church-planting church, despite such a rich church planting movement in the 1700s and 1800s.
